Basil, what was it about Reclaiming Hearts that made you want to be a part?
I was initially introduced to the ministry through Ayo, (my prime rib). The more Ayo engaged with the ministry the more tangible changes I saw in her. I was attracted to the effect it had on her and I wanted to know if I could experience the same or similar changes. Because of the impact it had on us individually, as a couple, and as a family, we knew we had to be a part of the ministry.
You and Ayo add such a beautiful component to our Weekend Experiences. What has it been like serving on the Weekend Experience teams since we began?
Serving at the Weekend Experience team is one of our best times away as a couple. We get to be around the people we love, we get to be free, and we get to do ministry. We also look forward to it. We enjoyed it so much that we have had to miss our children’s birthdays to be at the program, delay or postpone other major priorities, and even plan events around the Weekend Experience. We experience the refreshing breath of God during those days. We also enjoy seeing the difference in the attendees from when they come in on Thursday and how they leave on Sunday.
What would you say impacted you the most regarding the Pastors’ Weekend?
The freedom. I was pleasantly surprised at the level of freedom at which the attendees engaged. The singing was louder, the worship was impactful, they were hungry. I felt that some reconnected to their first love. We met a couple that shared the initial encounter with Christ. What a special story! This was the most relaxing (and effortless) Weekend Experience we have ever encountered.
As if serving on the board and serving on the Weekend Experience team isn’t enough, your daughter, Ire, is in our first group of graduates of The Next Experience! How has that journey been for you as her dad?
Initially, it was fine because I did not hear much about it. But we could see she was engaging with the process, always looking forward to attending the mentoring session, home gathering etc. I drove to McDonald’s on Murfreesboro Rd. one day just to spy on them. They were having a good time. When they saw me, I knew I had to leave. Seriously though, it has allowed us to share some of our struggles with her so she knows we are all still works in progress. Our relationship is getting better.
